Commander Flame Gets Deep In Her Duffle With New Video To Start 2019

A rose by any other name smells just as sweet, and this rap Gawddess by any name still annihilates a beat.

When I  first met Commander Flame she went by the name Nossis and her talent was undeniable. I remember thinking she was the spirits of Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliot and Eve squeezed into a 5 foot frame and here to shake the rap game up. Over the course of the next few years I would get the pleasure of witnessing her growth as a lyricist and as a performer. I even selected her as the winner of a showcase I judged back in 2016.

Then I heard she'd changed her name. I was both nervous and excited for her, rebrands can be so much fun. I remember thinking, that's a name you need your entire mouth to say, I hope fans rock with it.  Well, still woke and still talented, Flame started to demonstrate why the name change was necessary and why most of these other women who rapped should stand at attention when she blessed the stage. Yep, I was officially a full on stan! So imagine my excitement when we discussed her latest video Gold Mink off her Mood EP:

“The premise of this video is me having a transformation after purchasing a suit. It will be a Steve Urkel to Stephon aesthetic. I start off a little weird and I text my friend who is made my suit for help. Once I change into the suit my steez smoothes out to a jiggy dapper vibe.”

Ladies we've all been there, life got us feeling crazy and then we find that outfit and our entire demeanor changes. Well I was in the middle of my own transformation, so I took to the concept immediately. Then I heard the record and y’all know how I feel about quotables.
