Showcasing the Power of Black Women: Pretti Beast of the Week Farissa Knox
What is the true mark of a Pretti Beast? It's the impact her presence makes in the lives of her family, team, colleagues, customers and complete strangers. During the height of lockdown, I got the opportunity to interview author and entrepreneur Farissa Knox. The knowledge that she dropped was light hearted and extremely valuable, but it's the gems she dropped when we were done that shaped the post direction my career would take and why she is our inaugural Pretti Beast of the Week.
I became familiar with Farissa's work through the reality series PR Girls which is available on Amazon Prime and produced by WhatRUWearing Productions. The show like everything else Farissa touches is well produced, authentic, and of extremely high quality.
The reason this recent series of post have been centered around showcasing the power of Black women is because of the power I felt through the phone during our 30 minute conversation. It was effortless and it was humble, but it was powerful nonetheless. She also embodied what I felt this country needed- a "sistaintendent". As she shared stories of parenting, work life balance, and prioritizing her mental health, I sat in awe of how similar her path was to the one that I am paving for myself.
From her five years working in company as an advertising sales manager to her straight talk approach in her memoir: Love, Sex, and Friendship: In No Particular Order to the start of her companies RLM media, and WhatRUWearing Productions Farissa continues to show up as a role model to women everywhere-not just me. However, it's the way she pours into the lives of her staff as well as those she comes across that I find to be the most inspirational thing about her. Like, y'all sis held space for her staff through the isolation of lockdown and the outrage surrounding the racial tensions in the country. I've never had a boss do anything remotely close, but that's most definitely the kind of boss that I am trying to be. And when she told me that it was entirely possible to have it all, I believed her.
Shout out to Farissa Knox for painting the world with her unique brand of pretti!
