Imani Gooden Takes Listeners On A Journey of Heart v Mind With Her New Project

It feels like I’ve been waiting forever for Imani Gooden to drop her Heart v Mind project. So when the project dropped in October, I was so excited for the project and I was expecting to jam to a traditional R&B sound. Which I got and more!! What I did not expect was the way her lyrical expression latched on to my emotional DNA and would bully me into my own battle of Heart vs Mind. 

More than anything this project is a melodic allegory where through pretty song we are forced to look at ourselves as complete beings and not just romantic ones. For me: Work It Out, Bare, Fly Away, One More Times and Special hit different. Equally so, the interludes featuring Imani’s mother and sisters challenged me to look at love, perfection, and even sex from a less narrow lens.

Like I said the project dropped in October and here we are at the beginning of December- there were so many lessons in womanhood and self acceptance and growth that I needed a month and a half to process all my thoughts. 

Aside from being a bomb ass singer , Imani is also a songwriter, producer, and brand ambassador for Michelle Divine.
