Style Crush: Coach Sydney Carter
From Sabrina vs. Steph to Caitlyn Clarke setting a new NCAA record, and Dawn Staley’s legendary coaching prowess, women’s basketball has dominated social media conversations for the past month and a half. However, before the masses were fully engaged, Coach Sydney Carter was already making waves with her impeccable style and unwavering passion for the game.
Coach Carter's Instagram feed brings me immense joy! With each post, she effortlessly serves up polished, professional, and stunning looks that leave a lasting impression. But perhaps most importantly, her style allows little Black girls with natural hair and pear shapes to see themselves represented beyond the confines of urban apparel and hip-hop couture.
My admiration for this week's style crush began with her interview on Jemele Hill is Unbothered, where the retired WNBA star turned college coach addressed the criticism she had received for her attention-commanding looks. She confidently remarked, “I think it's just a matter of being confident with yourself. At the end of the day, you have to understand that people are going to say something.” Two years have passed since that interview, and Coach Carter continues to captivate with her looks, sparking conversations and empowering others to embrace their uniqueness.
