Helping You Elevate Your AI Content Using Your Brand’s Authentic Voice.
Today’s post is brought to you in part by my latest “ick”, bland soulless copy. And BAYBEE, nothing does more to exasperate this like AI-generated copy. As a businesswoman, I get the need to outsource, and AI programs are significantly cheaper than a copywriter. As a writer though, it's a huge “ick”, because why would you want to sound like everyone else? And how are your customers supposed to know you're talking to them if your copy talks to everyone? It's giving begging for engagement without having to be engaging.
Listen, we have all dabbled with some form of AI-generated content, so I'm not judging. But you have worked too hard to develop your brand identity for your copy to read like a robot tried its hand at creative writing. Your press release should have the same excitement you had telling your man about your upcoming product launch. Your social media copy should read like a conversation with you. Your press pitch should be a story editors want to piggyback off of.
At this point, I am convinced every time you post that unseasoned ChatGPT copy or send that empty-hearted pitch you are viciously and intentionally attacking my love of storytelling. And that I can’t get with. So here are some tips on how to elevate your AI Copy using your authentic brand voice:
Own your story, own your voice
Girl!!! Authenticity is always better than perfection. Please insert some anecdotes, humor, and personal experiences…something! AI programs tend to miss the mark when it comes to portraying the quirks that make up a brand. Sprinkle in details that only you can provide to make your content stand out. Also, type it how you’d speak it when giving your AI program its prompts. Most of these programs can’t create content geared towards Black American consumers organically, but with some help from you- programs can give you a content base that sounds a little like you that you can edit for more authentic storytelling.
Fix your tone.
It is never what you say, as much as it is how you say it. And AI programs never say it exactly the way it should be said. AI copy can either be too formal or too casual. Even if you're looking to codeswitch in hopes of appealing to a larger audience, you have to adjust the tone to fit your brand’s voice. Imagine having this copy that reads like a NYU professor’s pet robot wrote it, but in person you speak like a project princess. There goes your consistency. Take time to decide if you are warm and friendly or professional and authoritative. Then make sure your copy to reflects that. Grammarly is my favorite app for policing tone but find the app that works for you!
Edit for Coherence and Flow.
I can't be the only one who sees how AI programs butcher the narrative flow. They read rather choppy like a bad new article or entirely too fluffy like a drawn out fairytale. Neither of those will resonate with audiences, even if the tone matches your brand. Take your time and make sure the content tells a story or follows a logical progression that keeps your readers engaged. This is probably the most importantly!
Now, if you’re like me rather skip the hassle of mastering a new skill and leave it to the pros, I don't blame you, and that’s where my new AI-enhanced crafting services come in. I can't leave you guys to drown in the sea of boring stories. So I got to work.
